What’s the Weather doing?
Want to know whether or not the weather (get it) is good enough to make the trip to the lake. You can now get live weather data from our very own Weather Station on the top of the clubhouse – it’s all available here – including a forecast. And don’t forget the LakeCam.
Brett Hodgkins returns for Coaching Course
Brett spent the day with us on Sunday 4th June and offered some great tuition in Slalom and Trick Skiing plus Wakeboarding. Brett has an amazing calm and professional manner to his tuition and his knowledge is second to none.
Brett will hopefully be making a return to the club before the end of the year – so watch this space and make sure you book in early.
Brett is available to Coach Wakeboard, Slalom, Trick and Jump. Sessions are £20 for a 20 minute slot. You can use your own boat or, for a £5 gas contribution, boats will be available. You can book as many slots as you like – they start from 9am. First come – first served.
For first time Jumpers note that the ramp can be lowered to its’ minimum height and jump skis are available to borrow (Note that it is advisable to practice riding on a pair of jump skis before the day).
It’s happened – we all saw it today… the sun has arrived
Of course we have no idea how long we are going to be blessed with good weather (not long if you believe the
BBC) but this weekend (22/23 April) saw the lake bustling for the first time this year. Water temperature was still on the cold spectrum but with a decent wetsuit there was no problem at all. The ‘Counter Crew’ did a great job, the grass was cut, some boat tests finished off – all in all a great weekend – let’s hope for plenty more like this.
club ready for the season ahead.
Tables were painted, rubbish cleared up, bails placed around slipways to hopefully prevent the geese invasion, camera’s cleaned, club boat tidied up together with loads of other jobs.
They day stayed dry which was a great help to getting the club ready leaving just a few more jobs to complete on the 19th March – hopefully you can make it.
Thanks to everyone who came to help. You will find a host of photos from the day on the Gallery page.
Spring is in the air – the signs are very clear.

Congratulations must go to Clive Wallace and the rest of the British Senior Team who narrowly beat the French and took Gold at the European Championships. Later in the year the team also cam 4th at the World Championships.
Clive’s individual placing saw him in 4th at the European Trick event and he also made the finals in the World Championships despite injuring himself after a jump crash earlier in the competition.
Well done Clive.
3-Event Comp – June 2016
The three event competition, held on 18th and 19th June, comprised of three rounds of slalom, two rounds of trick and three rounds of jump. There was also a novice slalom category for competitors who haven’t got a tournament license and can’t consistently run the slalom course yet.
The event went well, the weather was kind, it was enjoyed by all and we also raised almost £1,000 for the club.
There were 3 entrants in the novice slalom, 18 normal slalom, 7 trick and 10 Jump. With 8 of our own members entering the competition.
The handicap winners included: Rob Hazelwood (junior), Harry Hebdon, Tim Hazelwood, Lucy Roberts (junior), Kate Hazelwood, Clive Wallace, Emma Scutt (junior) and Jack Critchley.
Congratulations go to Rob Hazelwood who set a new course record of 3 buoys on a 10.75m rope length. It’s 11.5m from the boat to the buoys so go figure that!!
Also Jack Critchley (left) who set a jump record of 64.2m, that’s a massive 211 feet!
Splash Day – What a great event.
August Bank Holiday saw fun and frolics return to the club – it had been some years since we held a Splash Day but the absence only went to make this day even better. Ali had organised some great events on and off the water and an amazing time was had by all. Hog Roast Courtesy of the newly Married Mr & Mrs Hill (Chairman and Child Protection Officer) and although there were a few hangovers from the previous nights Wedding Reception it seems that the whole day went without a hitch. Huge thanks go out to Ali and family for helping put it all together. Plans are now afoot to build a permanent waterslide with more ideas for next years Splash day being discussed. Head to the Gallery for more photos of the day. (If you have any photos please send them in to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Matt Crowhurst (CrowPro) returning next Spring
Did you know that Matt used to be a member at Church Wilne? He spent many of his formative years at the club.. and now look at him? One of the most famous wakeboarders in the world. You can now benefit from his amazing knowledge and coaching skills.
Following two really successful coaching sessions (each of 2 days) Matt Crowhurst (CrowPro) will be returning to the club in Spring 2017. The reaction from everyone who has experienced Matt’s coaching is, to say the least, enthusiastic. If you are interested in booking a slot then please email email@example.com and for more information about Matt you can visit his Facebook Page or email Matt directly – firstname.lastname@example.org
Matt uses the BBTalkin two way communication system. This enables him to talk to you the whole time you are on the water – it also enables you to talk back to Matt in case you do not understand anything.
An hour is £50 but we recommend that two of you sign up – that way you get a 2 hours session so you can conserve energy and also gain some benefit from listening to your buddy being taught. You can learn behind your own boat if you want.
Here’s what some people from CWWSC have said about Matt:-
- I would pay to do that every month
- Patient and calm – and you don’t feel like you are being told off
- The way Matt breaks it down and takes out the stuff you don’t need is really good
- Rode more switch than we’d ever done before
- Did loads more than I ever thought I would in the session”
- Matt was fab
- Approachable and flexible
- Whatever your wakeboarding level his calm, soothing and patient voice is very confidence-instilling
- Can we keep him
- What a great day – learned so much
We now have 3 Trainers in the club so if you want to get your licence there has never been a better time. Course dates are ongoing and announced on the webite and Facebook pages – please register your interest by signing up by email here or registering your interest when visiting the club. For members the course costs only £100 per person. (Non members £250).
Heating and Hot Water
Should you wish to have the hot water/central heating on from Monday to Friday you have to press the buttons in the corridor – they are labelled (please allow 20 minutes for the hot water to get to the correct temperature prior to showering)
Each press of the button will give you 1 hour – for more hours simply press more than once up to a maximum of 5 hours – add hours at any time by simply pressing the button.
There is also an air curtain above the front door in the clubhouse with a simple on off switch on the bottom. This will allow you to get the clubhouse up to temperature very quickly. Please only use this to take the edge off until the main heating system takes over as it is far less cost effective than the standard gas burning system.
Brett is going to make a welcome return to CWWSC on the 8th July for another Coaching day - slots are 20 minutes each and cost £20. You can use your own boat or, for a gas contribution, a boat will be made available for you. Brett is a worldclass coach for all skill...
